Queen and Adam Lambert's tour 2014 was well-received by fans and the "American Idol" alum got
stellar reviews following the Rexall concert as he channeled his inner Freddie Mercury.
According to the Edmonton Sun, 10,000 fans turned up for the Queen and Adam Lambert tour 2014
at Rexall Place, hanging on to every syllable and note to make sure Freddie Mercury's replacement
doesn't slip up.
"The cheers after the first few notes of the opener Now I'm Here revealed the initial verdict:
He'll do fine," Mike Ross of Edmonton Sun wrote.
He said that Adam Lambert didn't pretend to be Freddie Mercury but what worked was that the
"American Idol" alum was naturally flamboyant and outrageous, which the late Queen vocalist
certainly was.
It also helped that Adam Lambert can hit the high octaves-just like the late Freddie Mercury-
that only a few rock and roll vocalists achieve. According to the Sun, his own rendition of
"Who Wants to Love Forever" effectively "brought the house down."
"This of course isn't the first time Queen went out with another singer - Paul Rodgers from
Bad Company filled the spot for five years - but Lambert is a much better fit," the publication
said.
In terms of replacements, it was added, Adam Lambert was the best hire and even better than
Arnel Pineda who replaced Steve Perry of Journey or Sammy Hagar and David Lee Roth (Van Halen)
put together.
According to the San Jose Mercury News, the Queen and Adam Lambert tour 2014 isn't unprecedented
since the "American Idol" alum already fronted the band during the 2011 MTV Music Video Awards .
The publication said that the Queen and Adam Lambert tour 2014, which kicked off June 19, is the
latest example of a classic band with a large following trying to soldier on and add into the
bank account "without its iconic frontman."
"The results have varied wildly over the decades, going from the hugely disappointing
(the Doug Yule-led Velvet Underground) to the amazingly successful (Brian Johnson's reign with AC/DC),"
it said.
